Background

Kim’s inspired creative scope has generated an overall body of work that belies the capabilities of one person. She is an extraordinary creative, who’s vision, passion and humanity is expressed with a rare sensitivity and dedication within two distinct styles and working methods. Private and commercial, visionary and conceptual, her professional creative career spans more than 20 years. Kim’s talents are explored through mediums as diverse as digital imagery, drawing, painting, printmaking, handmade books, writing and music.

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1967, Kim’s formal education began between 1986-88, when she studied for her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Followed by a Graduate Diploma of Education (Art) in 1990, a Diploma of Arts: (Illustration) 1997-98, and a Master of Visual Arts Degree, at Monash University 2002-04. Travelling in Thailand, Europe, UK, Ireland, Indonesia and USA intermittently between 1993 and 2003, Kim returned in 2001 to Europe to study the mische painting technique, as student and assistant to Philip Rubinov-Jacobson and Michael Fuchs, in Reichenau, Austria and Florence, Italy, returning in the same capacity in 2002.

Kim holds an important place in the underground art scene of Melbourne and is known and respected amongst the Surrealist and Visionary art communities in Australia, America and Europe. Her works have been exhibited in Australia and internationally, including Sydney, Melbourne, Italy, Austria and America.

In 2003 Kim exhibited amongst celebrated artists Ernst Fuchs, HR.Giger, Alex Grey, Philip Rubinov Jacobson, Kris Kuksi, Daniel Martin Diaz and many others, at both the ‘Brave Destiny’ exhibition in Brooklyn, New York, and the 2003-2004 ‘Fantastic & Visionary Art’ touring exhibition throughout Australian regional galleries. Kim’s works are held in many private collections and her drawing ‘Kriya-Guardian’, is a permanent piece in the Art Visionary Collection of Damian Michaels, artist, curator and director of Art Visionary Magazine.

Kim’s beautiful Visionary drawings explore the depths of the unconscious, “Her work is ancient and modern; synthetic and natural; mystical and human, unveiling a timeless language… as it transcends but includes all that has come before. Her images allow one to think without making oppressively literal references, so that viewers are free to identify with the work” P.Rubinov-Jacobson

“The art of Kim Evans provides the viewer with intimate visions into her inner worlds that seductively appear out of patterns and layers embedded with personal meaning and symbolic archetypes.
Here, beings speak with ancient voices and their wisdom is entwined with symbols that celebrate the goddess, nature, soul and our living essence. These symbols are known throughout history and arise out of the unconscious like a map to the soul. Her work celebrates what it is to be human with all our frailties, and these intuitive notations woven within beautifully detailed drawings and paintings, capture in time, intensely private experiences that we can all relate to.” A.Nagel Click here to view full comment.
