Shaolin Success!
HAVE you ever wondered what sets some individuals apart from others? What helps some people to focus and achieve their goals whilst others dream about it? Could it be that there are some skills and knowledge you could acquire to improve your success, confidence and satisfaction?
About 1500 years ago, a Temple was established in the center of a great country, surrounded by the 5 pillars of heaven in a young forest, and it was named Shaolin (Sil-lum in Cantonese). Initially, it was just another of Chinas temples but the training and spirit in this temple was of such quality that it soon became renown through out China and later throughout the world for it's teachings and martial arts.
Although rooted in Buddhist principles, the skills taught at Shaolin went far beyond Buddhism. The teachings and practices developed gave Shaolin students and Monks the skills needed to succeed in anything they chose; to be able to walk the path they need to. (The Shaolin believe that "Everyone has the obligation to leave this world a better place compared to when they entered". To achieve this requires strength, determination and focus!)
Health and Fitness needs to be part of any Success Formula! This is more evident today where the availability of fitness instructors is constantly increasing; it is evident that more and more people are realizing that there is no real success without health and fitness. Shaolin also discovered this as a vital requirement for success and developed a training regime, that incorporate heath and fitness needs, with safety and security requirements.
Known for it's superior martial art and self defence, Shaolin Kung Fu comes from a combination of Yoga and Tibetan Martial Arts. Over the centuries, many aspects of Chinese Kung Fu, Chi Kung and Tai Chi, Lama Kung Fu were incorporated to make it a most complete health and fitness style. But Shaolin Kung Fu had to be pragmatic and the exercises usable and functional as Self Defence and Protection. This needed to be of a high quality as Shaolin students and monks are forbidden to cause any harm to any living being. Even when attacked by multiple and weaponed assailants, Shaolin are only able to defend themselves and their charges without causing undue harm or pain, even to those who wish to cause them serious injury or even death!
Although now 1500 years old, Shaolin kung fu teaching and style are just as relevant now for success as they were in past generations. The ability to feel confident and safe; to improve focus and concentration; to increase health and general well-being; to have a stronger posture and physique; to be able to defend yourself both verbally and physically, to have increased attention for study and work; all very important skills that contribute significantly to your personal success!
Master Robert Z, Chief Instructor with over 45 years of experience in Martial Arts is a successful person himself. Up to 2002, Master Robert Z was the Program and Development Manager with a large Australian company where he managed 220 staff and a budget exceeding $2.2 million. He has Associate Diplomas in Engineering (1980), Computer Design (1980) Communications (1985) Computing (1992), Management (1995), and a Certificate 4 in Education and Training (1997 & 2003). As a Martial Artist since 1962, he also had some success. Some of these highlights are; European Full Contact Karate Champion 1976 (runner up in 75), 19/20 wind Full Contact 87/88, 23 National & State Champions trained, Judge & Referee of the year 1999, trained in Shaolin Temple, Shaolin Temple Training School, Beijing Wushu Kung Fu Academy, Xi'an School of Kung Fu. He is now semi retired, and totally devoted to his students and instructors; bringing his full experience, both from the Corporate Environment in educating future generations and his 45+ years of martial art teaching & training. A professional Martial Art Master, he is still the main hands-on teacher at the Academy most days of the week.
Shaolin Kung Fu Academy Instructors are also exceptionally well trained under Sijo Guidance and Training. They participate in a 3 year course to achieve their qualifications and include L2 Fist Aid, Accreditation through MAIA and Aust Sport Accredited Martial Art Instructor Training. In addition Sijo runs many courses identical to the course he ran as an Executive including; Management & Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Planning, Budgeting & Finances, Class Management and Development, Mentoring, Student Development and more.
"Martial Art instructors are possibly some of the best trained Fitness Leaders and Personal Trainers available. They train for 5 to 8 years, in a structured and supervised environment, with exams and grading's. Then, if they wish to be an instructor, they can spend a further 2 to 4 years being a trainee learning the skills of a Teacher, before their master allows them to teach. Compare this to the current influx of semi qualified, Personal Trainers and 'Fitness Leaders' (that sometimes get their qualification in as little as 6 to 8 weeks), it is a surprise that people do not choose martial artists more as their personal trainers. The century old and exceedingly well proven process of student education from Master is vastly superior to today's quick qualify and make money attitude of 'Fitness Professionals'. We will pay the price in the future, when the general public will turn away from Fitness & Health Professionals! We can only hope that we (martial artists) can maintain the high quality of professionalism that most martial art schools uphold." - Quote from Sijo at a Fitness and Leadership Camp, MtGambier, 2002.

There are many, many pages on this WEB site. Most of the graphics in the menu are linked to information pages. The Sashes have the Animal Kung Fu curriculum to Black Sash and the Books represent the 72 Fist Kung Fu curriculum. The headers of each Shaolin style link to a summary page for that style.
