
Kevin
Hunt is a popular and versatile jazz pianist. He has, over the last 16 years, shared
the stage with international artists including: Herb Ellis, Billy Cobham, Sheila Jordon,
and Larry Adler. He has also recorded and performed with most of Sydney's prominent jazz
artists.
He
works with his own trio, the 'Kevin Hunt JS Bach Trio' and also tours extensively with Don
Burrows. Kevin and Don conduct workshops and master classes for school and university
students.
Kevin's
passion for the piano began when his father Ellis taught him to play. Kevin then followed
in his brothers' footsteps and played brass instruments in the school band and started
playing keyboards in rock bands. |

The JS Bach Trio and Tree perform at the Melbourne International Jazz
Festival.
Don Burrows and Kevin continue their teaching and performing schedule around Australia.
Bellingen NSW, Kevin performs a solo concert sharing the bill with renowned pianist David
Helfgott.
Kevin Hunt plays JS Bach CD wins the ABC 24-Hours Listeners Choice Award for Best
Jazz CD
Release of 1998.
On June 22nd at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Kevin is awarded the Mo Award for Jazz
Instrumentalist Performer of the Year.
1995 - 1998
The Kevin Hunt Plays JS Bach recording is nominated for the Aria award
Best Jazz Release.
Don Burrows and Kevin travel to Brazil and Argentina for concert performances, and a
wonderful exchange of music between themselves and the South American musicians they
met and performed with.
Produced the group Trees debut CD - Tree. Tree featured in the jazz
festivals at Manly,
Kiama and Wangaratta.
Formed new trio, specifically to play the music of JS Bach.
The Bach Trio featured in the Darling Harbour and Manly Jazz Festivals.
This Trio recorded the CD Kevin Hunt Plays JS Bach for the ABC in December 1997
Touring and recording with Don Burrows. Formed duo with Don Burrows. These tours are
to schools in the outback regions, organising the students into ensembles and training
them.
Joined the Don Burrows Quintet. Toured to China and Hong Kong.
Formed the trio Tree, with Steve Hunter, and David Jones, to play
contemporary,
improvised, original music.
1990 - 1994 Dec
1993 Musical Director Costa-Allegra Cruise Ship - Miami USA - 4-month
contract.
Granted leave from Composition Studies, to travel through Europe working as a
musician and taking summer courses. Vienna Miestercourse - Joseph Zawinul (3 day
workshop).
Attended the Warsaw Autumn Contemporary Music Festival. Lived in Warsaw for 3 months.
Travelled and performed in Milan, Paris, London, Dublin, and Amsterdam.
Began full-time study in The Bachelor of Music majoring in
Composition at the NSW Conservatorium of Music.
Toured
and performed piano duo music with Judy Bailey. (Three complete concert repertoires).
Performed with Billy Cobham (famous International drummer).
Recorded new line-up of The Commuters, now with 3-part vocal, piano, bass and
drums.
1982 - 1989
Trio recording on Jazz Track hosted by Jim McLeod, on ABC Radio.
Recorded Visa CD, with the Steve Hunter Group.
Joined The Kinetic Energy Theatre Company and performed and transcribed Thelonius Monk and
Art Tatum piano solos.
Toured to Australian National Tour with Don Burrows and James Morrison.
Recorded CDs with The Carl Orr Band and Free Spirits.
Toured to Singapore, Burma, Thailand with Bob Bertles (saxophones), and Chris Qua (bass),
performed for two months in Asia, organised by Musica Viva.
Travelled to New York City, stayed there 5 weeks and observed group classes given by Barry
Harris.
Assistant Musical Director, of the youth celebration for the Papal Tour - international
telecast.
Composer of corporate video soundtracks and advertisement jingles.
Member of the Geoff Harvey Orchestra, TCN Nine, for the Mike Walsh Show, a national
daily television program

Formed The Commuters a band to play original music.Recorded the first
Commuters, recording
which was broadcast on Music to Midnight, hosted by lan Neil on ABC Radio.
Founding member of the Morrison Brothers Big Bad Band and
toured with the band to Japan for World Expo 84
Daly Wilson Big Band, tour and TV special. Studied jazz piano under Paul McNamara and
Roger Frampton.
