FAMILY
HISTORY:
DAD - My dad's
family came to NZ in c.1909 and then Australia a few years later from Oldham (in fact the locality of Hey, in the village of Lees, which are within the now city of Oldham). They settled in the Drummoyne area of Sydney. Grandad Fred was a builder in the area, and my Dad later went into the PMG as a telephone technician. He was a keen sailor and sailed with Billy Dodd on 18 footers from the Drummoyne Club before WW2. He married my mum in 1941 and they lived for a while at Windsor during the war where my brother David John was born. My twin brother Roland & I were born in 1950 at Eastwood (Ryde Hospital) when we were living at Five Dock (Potter St., Russell Lee). We moved to Gladesville in 1957 into paternal Grandad's house in 15 Pittwater Rd. My Dad (John Dyson D.) father's name was Fred (b. approx 1880) and Fred's was James (say c. 1855). They were Methodists and worshipped at a now demolished Chapel about 1 mile south-east of Oldham. There are quite a few Dunkerley's in the area - whether they are related it is hard to say! Manchester is in what used to be called the County of Lancashire, in the north west of England. Oldham lies just a few miles west of The Pennines (range of hills) and the Peak District.
