Professional Information

Current: Teaching mathematics and science in the Queensland Year 10 Program, located in Shanghai (PRC). This program caters to Chinese students who wish to study year 11 and 12 in Australia. My role is to provide the mathematics and science classes to the students. As the only maths/science teacher in the program I also am responsible for collaborating with my colleagues in Australia and ensuring that the program meets the needs of the students while still being of the same standard as year 10 in Australia.

2003: Mathematics and Science Teacher at Kelvin Grove State College (Australia). As a classroom teacher I taught a variety of maths and science subjects to students in years 10, 11 and 12. I also worked as part of a team preparing the school to move towards a new 3 year senior program. In addition to teaching I was involved in a camp and was responsible for taking the students to the district and regional athletics carnivals.

2001-2002: Mathematics and Science Teacher at St Chad’s School (Tilbury, UK). During my time at St Chad’s I worked with a team of teachers who were striving to move the school out of special measures. From this, I gained experience of the National Curriculum as well as the British inspection system. St Chad’s was a difficult school (it has subsequently been shut down) and my time there provided me with a large amount of experience in behaviour management strategies. I taught both mathematics and science to GCSE level.

1999-2000: While studying for my Graduate Bachelor of Education I supported myself in several ways. Both years I worked in boarding schools as part of the live-in staff. I also tutored maths, chemistry and physics and worked in an administration role for the Genetic Counsellor at Townsville General Hospital.

1998: Manager of The National Science and Technology Centre (Australia) travelling mathematics program. In this position I lived in various towns around Australia running hands on mathematics sessions for school children as well as teacher training programs.

Pre-1998: During this period I travelled, studied for my first two degrees and worked in a variety of jobs including 6 months as a governess in a remote area of Australia, many tutoring positions and time as a personal assistant to a Chinese businessman in Singapore and Hong Kong.
