Club Kotsobolyo (News)

August 1999

Greetings to all club members.

Welcome to the winter edition of "Kotsobolyo". There have been some members who are planning to run a trip or two or functions for the club and its members. This is strongly encouraged for all members. Organising a trip can be very rewarding. If anyone wishes to organise a trip, any of your committee will be pleased to provide advice and assistance.

Well the biggest trip attempted by this club has just finished. A 3 week trek through central Australia. See brief report below.

Club Trip Reports:

Hill End Trip, Bathurst. June 12-14, 1999 (Long Weekend)

Well we made it to Historic Hill End, 90 km NW of Bathurst. We arrived and set up camp by the banks of the Turon River. The drive to the campsite was exceptional with some fantastic views of the Turon River and valley.

There were 7 vehicles who turned up for camping, with an additional 4 vehicles arriving the next day, for cabin accommodation at Hill End.

Historic Hill End provided us with a bit of Australian History, a chance to try our hand at Gold Panning, a tour of an old mine, and much needed shower and toilet facilities for the campers.

Well it rained, snowed, hailed and it was freezing, but despite this a great time was had by all. This place is an absolute must for a revisit, …….IN SUMMER!!!!

Central OZ

What can we say. For those of you who could not make it, you missed out on an unforgettable experience of a lifetime. It has been everyone's wish who owns a 4WD to do a trip like this, and it is well worth doing.

We started with 8 cars and 24 people (15 Adults and 9 Children)

In summary the trip included Bush camping, sight seeing in some of the remotest parts of Australia, climbing Ayres Rock, bushwalking, fishing and a lot of driving.

Once the trip reports are finalised, it is hoped to bring you a serialised report on the trip over the next few newsletters. Suffice to say that this all would not have been possible without the immense efforts of Peter Notaras, the trip leader, who put together the whole trip. A thanks to you for a job well done.

Some highlights of the trip include the establishment of the "Greek Embassy" and "kafenio" on top of Ayres Rock, serving Haloumi cheese and greek coffee. Continual calls over the radio of "That’s Fantastic", "Have you been to Gosford" and "are we there yet". Our illustrious leader creating pizzas all over Birdsville and getting evicted from the only pub at Kings Canyon, (He was followed by his wife the next night- runs in the family does it Patty?). Patrick "Rex Hunt eat your Heart out" catching all the fish. Some memorable names were allocated throughout the trip such as Sandman, Choco, Kevin Knievel, Chevy Lord, Julie, Disco Boys.

We have included a small sample off the photos taken and it just does not do Australia justice. If you get a chance to go, …..GO!!!!!
