THE 10.5cm leFH 18 was the most widely-used German field-piece of the war and many variants were built. It was produced by Rheinmetall-Borsig and and entered service in 1935.
The leFH 18 was originally out-ranged by the British 25 pounder (10,675m versus 12,255m). To match the range of the 25 pounder a larger charge was used resulting in an increased range of 12325m. However to handle the larger charge the recoil mechanism had to be strengthened and a muzzle brake had to be used. leFH 18s with these enhancements were referenced leFH 18 M. |
