  Minefields
BOTH belligerents used minefields extensively. Mines were an effective means of defending unguarded ground. Bodies were occasionally booby-trapped. Anti-tank mines were also booby-trapped with anti-personnel mines.

The Australian sappers found that having ten or more rows of mines spaced ten yards apart provided the best means of keeping a minefield intact through shelling.
