| WHEN TROOPS were in reserve they were sometimes allowed freedom of movement. Troops gravitated to the beaches to wash, clean and swim. Sometimes formal swim parades were organized. Swimming wasn't without danger as the harbour was under frequent air attack. Trenches and graves beside the water emphasised the risks. Popular swimming beaches were Marsa Beiad in the eastern sector and Wadi Auda. |
