  Mail
THE ARRIVAL of mail always provided a huge boost to morale. All outgoing mail had to be censored. Many soldiers numbered their letters so that missing letters could be detected.

Some troops suffered the disappointment of not receiving mail. Sometimes this was because they or their relatives where illiterate - times were difficult for many families during the Great Depression and not everyone could get an education.

All mail had to be censored.
