General Richard O'Connor  |
| O'CONNOR, who had earlier masterminded the rout of the Italians in 1940/early 1941, was captured by the Germans during the Benghazi Handicap. He spent most of the rest of the war as a POW in Italy until he escaped with General Neame in 1943. He and Neame were good friends. |
