THE 'Auk' replaced Wavell as Commander-in-Chief, Middle East in July 1941.

He relieved Tobruk and forced the Axis forces into a long retreat.

He in turn was succeeded by Alexander after the Axis forces recovered and recaptured the lost ground (including Tobruk) and then some.
