When you look around for ideas on what might be background, you see some Cornish Pages and Wiltshire Pages online which are very helpful in tracing ancestors and getting to know what the country was like around the places where your ancestors lived.

Somerset Archive and Record Service : Among these pages, the Somerset Record Office gives you a guide to tracing your family history with them. You can inspect this guide to Genealogy in Somerset.

Dorset

Dorset County Council Home Page : You will find a wealth of places to explore here in what became known as the Wessex of Thomas Hardy's novels. The Dorset County Council has developed a fine index which is the place to browse many links. You will certainly see Corfe Castle.

If you are an avid reader of Thomas Hardy's novels, you will find a link to pictures of the Dorset places
which Hardy used as a basis for his stories.
The names of towns, villages and places are cross-referenced to the actual placenames he used in the novels.
