One of the fascinating pieces of architecture in the gardens of the Millthorpe Golden Memories Museum is the Memorial wall with plaques commemorating those who settled the area and left descendants in many parts of the area around Millthorpe. The Aboriginal Wiradjuri Tribe were the people who lived in Millthorpe District and they have a key place as the original occupants. Those who came to the district include many Cornish folk with others from Somerset, Yorkeshire, Nottinghamshire. The discovery of the first payable gold at Ophir by John Lister and William Tom is recognised. Some of the plaques are displayed below, giving an indication of the range of places from which the settlers came to the Millthorpe area both from overseas and from inside the Australian continent, the activities in which they and their descendants were involved and the recognition which the descendants gave to their ancestors.
