The Events of the Centenary Weekend

EASTER SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Replete with a Barbecue Lunch, the activites available in the bright sunny afternoon were many and varied. The result was that the population of the main area diminishes for a couple of hours. Inspection of the program shows how widespread the possible locations of interest really were.

Saturday Afternoon Program Activities

  • Inspection of village-scape
  • Identified sites
  • Mine site, Battery & Cemetery
  • Historic Activities
  • Gold panning, horse & vehicle rides
  • Vintage Vehicle parade
  • Pony Club and trail riders in action
  • Memorabilia display
  • Camp oven cooking competition
  • Art& Craft and novelties
  • Children's Resource Van
  • Face Painting

The time seemed to fly past as one went from one place to another so that it has only been possible to record some of the activities. It was evident that the children were having a fine time, collecting things to keep for the trip home from the Resource Van, having their faces painted, having rides on horses and ponies, travelling around in the coach and other horse drawn vehicles. Some of the children were suprised and delighted to have their wagon pulled over by a mounted policeman in the uniform of the second half of the 19th Century. Let us look at just some of these activities.

We will leave this afternoon with a visit to the display of children's art contributions.
They come from many schools and from many individuals.
The colours are vivid and the abilities displayed are wonderful.

What better for the evening than a twilight spit roast followed by musical entertainment and impromptu performances by members of the audience! Roars of laughter and much applause was a wonderful way to finish the evening, followed by a well-earned rest in tents, caravans and cars until next day.
