It should be remembered that Australia only became a Commonwealth in 1901, and as a consequence the vast majority of Primary Records we need to access for Genealogical Research are to be found in the various State record centres. The National Archives in Canberra, in the ACT, only started to gather records from that date. The earliest material was concentrated in NSW depositories, long before Victoria and the other Colonies were established.
I have selected a few comprehensive Web sites set up by Genealogists, which cover Australia as a whole. Then there are a few set up by the Commonwealth Government, followed by a selection from NSW and Victoria, just to give the flavour of what is to be found in the other States.
