Duram Products Australia
The Duram Personal Escape Mask is a new safety product, giving protection from various gases, including: Carbon Tetrachloride, Hydrogen Cyanide, Chlorine, Hydrogen Sulphide, Sulphur Dioxide, Ammonia, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Nuclear Biological Chemical warfare gases, Tear Gas, CS, CN, OC.
In the event of an accident or warfare terrorist attack, when the source and nature of the dangerous gas/fumes maybe unknown, the behaviour of an individual can be more confident if he is able to utilise the personal emergency mask thereby enabling him to concentrate on finding and rescuing any casualties or victims, and so effect better crowd control.
One of the most important things to highlight is in regards to visitors, temporary workers, anyone unfamiliar with fire escapes, exits and routes. A person could be in an area such as in a high rise building, a mining area, oil rig or vessel, several levels below deck, that they are unable to escape from immediately the emergency escape mask is an on-the-spot solution for this type of personnel.
Everyone is familiar with Carbon Monoxide, but there is a range of gases that are produced in a fire that incapacitate much more quickly than Carbon Monoxide, such as those found in a building environment. Furniture, computers, plumbing, pipes etc. will burn and release fumes. In the first stage of a fire, the temperature rises from 100C to 300C, causing the production of hydrogen chloride and hydrogen cyanide, as well as a large quantity of organic particles. In this instance the Personal Emergency Escape Mask is an on-the-spot solution. In the second stage of a fire, the temperature rises again, from 400C and higher, causing carbon monoxide and other toxic emission. The Personal Emergency Escape Mask can allow escape from the danger zone, or retreat to a safety zone and it can mean the difference between life and death.
The model DM43C/600V NBC, has been tested under laboratory conditions. According to the calculations, in a flow rate of 95 litres/minute (test conditions) the air velocity flow through the filter is 0.08m/sec. We can conclude that at this velocity the penetration rate is below 0.05%. The capacity of filtration is effective to 99.95% or in other words, maximum initial penetration of test aerosol (sodium chloride test) of 0.05%.
The Duram Personal Escape Mask has received the following recognition from the Journal of International Security:
Training Exercise held by the US Marine Corps Chemical and Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF). The team simulated a serin gas attack on Capitol Hill and for the task special gear designed for rapid reaction was used, the new compact personal escape mask developed by Duram.
The article goes on to list the benefits of the mask, including that it allows panoramic vision, that one size fits all, there is no loss of hearing, and it is optimal for short actions of less than 1 hour, providing effective performance against toxic gas. Also the mask comes in a comfortable, unisex pouch, with the total weight of mask and pouch at just 150 gm.
This is a new product, with a new concept, and a new philosophy, which adds value to safety. It is there when needed. Among our customers we have pilots, passengers, personnel from the mining industry, army/navy, chemical industry, oil rigs and vessels, laboratory workers, dangerous goods drivers, and others. The Personal Escape Mask should be viewed in the same way as safety goggles, boots, helmets and gloves.
