Peter Rowsthorn

History: Also a member of the The Comedy Company, Pete Rowsthorn is one of Australia's most talented and popular comics.

Like most of his contemporaries, Pete served his apprenticeship at Melbourne’s Le Joke comedy club, starting off in 1983 as one half of "The Cactus Brothers." The next year he teamed with Comedy Company members, Maryanne Fahey and Glenn Robbins for "Christmas on a Stick".

Then came Let The Blood Run Free, where Peter created the dribbling hospital orderly, Warren, whom he based on the half-crazed cleaner he encountered in a lift at a Melbourne Hospital but added to him a propensity for dribbling under stress ("it was a way of getting a cheap laugh") which caused, after several episodes of the show, an unusual condition diagnosed as "dribble rash".

Since then Peter has starred in a string of hit shows throughout Australia, including his own standup show "Peter Rowsthorn Phones Home" and Last Laugh musical game show, "Pick a Hit".

He also co-wrote and starred in the film, "Bonza" which won two AFI awards in 1989.

Warren is one of life's underdogs. On the surface he is a pathetic mess, but underneath his unkempt appearance is a lovable and heroic soul.

Warren is afflicted by two physical handicaps - he lost control of his dribble duct after being used as a guinea pig to test an experimental asbestos-based dental floss and he has a allergic reaction to sugar which causes him to undergo a pathological personality change when he overdoses.

"Wozza" (as he is affectionately known) has made his home in the hospital broom cupboard where he dreams of a better life. He is passionately and tragically in love with Nurse Effie.
