Mark Cutler

History: A one time teacher, tennis coach and intrepid traveller, Mark, like many Melbourne comedians, got his start as a waiter at The Last Laugh theatre restaurant.

Mark soon graduated to stand-up comedy and was a founding member of "The Blood Group" playing Dr Richard Lovechild (originally called Doctor Dick) in the stage version.

At the same time Mark, a sports fanatic who played Australian Rules and Rugby League football at school, joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as a sports journalist, which saw him posted to Perth and Hobart. This meant that Mark was at first unavailable to play the role of Doctor Richard Lovechild in the TV series, but later was able to arrange his schedule to enable him to play Detective George Slabb a role created specially for him.

For 15 years Homicide Detective George Slabb (pronounced "slab-bub")  has been obsessed with pursuing a vicious axe-murderer.

The case, and a six week course in psychiatry at Police Training School majoring in gun-shot wounds to the head as a cause of mental impairment, have dominated his life.

His search finally brings him to the crumbling corridors of St Christophers where forms an equally strong romantic obsession with Matron Conniving-Bitch.
