ICARE & Ashraya working together Community Development Projects and Programs
Our work with Ashraya continues to benefit the disadvantaged children in Neelbagh School which is a safe haven for children of nomadic construction workers who are left to play unsupervised on extremely dangerous construction sites. The children are given nutritious food, a stable education, immunisation and medical care. Despite being a rural school, a lot of importance is given to wholesome education. The school results have again been good this year and this is a great encouragement to both the pupils and teachers.
In January this year, the long awaited annual Children's Day was a huge success with a variety of dances, songs, races and other activities that were enjoyed by all - children, parents and community. The children are now talking about the next Children's Day as it is always a day the children look forward to months in advance of the actual function.
ICARE & Robin's Nest Children's Home (RNCH) working together in Child Sponsorship and Community Development projects and programs.
The Children's Homes in Agra and Jhansi have continued to run successfully with a few more needy children coming in to the Homes during the year. These children now live in a good environment and sleep comfortably on clean mattresses and quilts and eat nutritional food. For one little boy called Prakesh, it was a real experience coming to live in the Home because one of the things he had not done before was to brush his teeth. When he put the brush in his mouth, he liked the taste of the toothpaste so much that he kept asking for more. When there is no one in the room, he takes the toothbrush and starts to brush his teeth. Prakash had also never slept on a bed before and now enjoys jumping into his at night, content in the knowledge that he is being cared for and loved by all around him.
One of the goals for the new year ahead is to bring in more orphans - mainly girls into the Children's Home.
