 * = As per 'The Church Of The Prophets', a Character can only purchase one of Missionary, Monk (/Nun), or Priest - all of these being alternative training paths that an ordained individual may take.  It could be argued that similar restrictions should also apply, for broadly similar reasons, to the Sailor and Riverboat Pilot skills; Bard and Skald; or Captain and Commander.

 ^ = A specific locale (usually a city or large town) must be provided for this Knack.  Lose 2 unkept dice from any rolls using this Knack outside the region in question.  This Knack may be purchased multiple times to represent knowledge about different places. 


An Unauthorized Addition ...

  As someone with happy childhood memories of "messing about in boats" (and who has read of "cutting out expeditions" from a variety of sources), it is unbelievable to me that '7th Sea' should have absolutely no Skill or Knacks concerning the use of small boats.

  OK, not any more.

New Skill -

BOATMAN.  Boatmen are those persons knowledgeable in the use of small open boats, both sail- and muscle-powered.  They may be part of a larger vessel's crew, or earn their living independantly as fishermen or ferrymen.

 Basic Knacks:  Balance, Boats, Knotwork.

 Advanced Knacks:  Boatwright, Bribery, Direction Sense, Swim, Weather.

New Knack 1 -

BOATS: You know how to sail most kinds of open boat (including raft, canoe, longboat, skiff, coracle, small barge or sailboat).  You also know how to make minor repairs to these craft.  This knack may not always be necessary for simple maneuvers under ideal conditions but, at any other time ...

  (Note:  I don't do this, but other referees may decide that this knack should be subdivided to represent specialization with different types of watercraft.)

  Also available as an Advanced Knack for the Guide, Riverboat Pilot, Sailor and Whaler skills.

New Knack 2 -

BOATWRIGHT:  You know how to professionally build or repair boats.  The principles of this trade are basically the same as for Shipwright, the only real differances being those related to size / scale.  For that reason, Boatwrights only lose one Unkept Die if attempting repairs to a ship and, likewise, Shipwrights only lose one Unkept Die if attempting repairs to a boat.

  Also available as a Basic Knack for the Merchant skill.
