is a Role-Playing Game of Pirates, Musketeers, Magic, Exploration, Secret Societies, Alien Artifacts, Honour, Politics, Romance, Faith, Mystery, Intrigue and Heroic Adventure. Swashbuckling is not merely encouraged - it is essential.

The world of 7th Sea will seem familiar.  There is much that parallels both the legends and the history of our own world's 16th-18th century.  But, there are many surprises as well ...

What follows are articles by fellow inmates of the 7th Sea GMserver (special thanks to Krackenjack, Jeffrey Qualkenbush and leam for allowing me to reproduce their work here); and the response to some questions I asked Rob Vaux (7th Sea's Line Developer) way back when.

There are also lists for official Weapons, Swordsman Schools, Skills, Knacks, Backgrounds, and Advantages - compiled from everything officially published (Nation Books 1 - 8, , Secret Society Books 1 - 6, NOM # 1 - 4, the Compendium, 'Waves of Blood', 'The Montaigne Revolution', 'Church of the Prophets', 'Swordsman's Guild', 'Crescent Empire', 'Islands Of Gold', 'Explorer's Society', 'Strongholds & Hideouts', 'Cathay - Jewel of the East', 'The Sidhe Book of Nightmares' and 'Knights & Musketeers') or made available online by AEG.

Anybody wishing to copy material for personal use is welcome to do so.

Later '7th Sea' products were marketed with dual stats - the original 'Roll And Keep' rules (R&K for short) and the popular 'D20' rules.  The D20 alternative system's single biggest problem is its unbelievably bllaaahhhh name of 'Swashbuckling Adventures' (how much was some 'genius' paid for THAT idea?).

Alderac justified this confusing name change (and persistent concealment of the original name / logo) as " ... a marketing decision ... ".  Make of that what you will - any opinion I might express about this may be less than polite.  It was clearly a brilliant move since, as of 2004, AEG no longer publishes anything for either system.  Certain people at AEG were actively supporting the game and its background online but (as of the company's major "downsizing" in early 2006) this too seems to have fallen by the wayside.  At this stage, any "new" stuff is fan-created, and a lot of it is durn good.

Personal preference (I really like the R&K system - and am kind of luke-warm about D20 in general) plus the usual time / money limitations (natch!) means that there is no D20-specific data here.  Sorry.  If you desperately want me to "do" D20 stuff, please send lots of money directly to me (Australian $$$ by preference, and absolutely positively NO 'business oppurtunities' please), whereupon I will solemnly vow to change the situation.  Somehow.  Eventually.  Honest.  Trust me.  Really.

The '7th Sea' (/ 'Swashbuckling Adventures') role-playing game system was created by Rob Vaux, John Wick, Jennifer Wick and Kevin Wilson.
