March 2002 - I just discovered how long it's been since I
updated this list & I must offer my apologies. In any case,
here's the newest of the new for you - I'll try & get on top of
the many things I'm currently working on. Here goes - This month's
feature album is from Cartman, Go! which features a pile of
cool tracks like Nobody & Shock. (Phantom) Amanda Easton
will be a name that some will know, she returns with a new single,
Falling In (MGM) Artificial is the side project for B(if)tek
member Nicole Skeltys. The second album is Libraries Are Fun
(Creative Vibes) West Australian act Beatworld have a great
new album, the band's second, called Music In The Night (MGM) The
Youngsters have a new album, their debut called Lemonorange,
which is full of very cool electronic sounds. (Creative Vibes) The
Upper Hip is a new ep from Mav & Her Majesty's Finest,
containing some great rock tunes. (Global Saville) The Superjesus
have a new single, which has already gotten some great airplay,
Second Sun (Warner) Following the rather unusual success of
Herbert's album Around The House, it's being re-released. Look
for it soon. (Creative Vibes) Backyard Dog have a new single
out - Baddest Ruffest, which is their debut. There's apparently an
album due out in September which should see quite some success, based
on the massive UK success of this single, which debuted at number 10
on the UK charts. (Warner) Jane Kitto has been working
offshore for a few years, but has now returned to Australia, with a
new album titled Princess Of Tragedy & it's a great listen.
(Didgeridoo) Staind are a band out of the US, with a very cool
single called Outside. Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst did the A & R for
the band, as well as guesting on one version of the title track here.
There's also an album on the way. (Warner) A fairly hardcore sound
from Local Pricks out of West Australia. The band hark back to
the days of early punk sounds, but with a fresher attitude than that
might indicate, their latest release being Pig Skin (MGM) A remix
album of Fauna Flash material has been released, called
Confusion & features some great remixes from the liks of dZihan
& Khamien, Pole & others (Creative Vibes) The God Botherin'
Years is the latest thing from Capital City, the sounds
reminiscent of some cool Australian rock acts (MGM) A whole variety
of artists have contributed their music to th Amnesty
International 40th Anniversary double CD set. The Buddha Bar
organisation has put it together & as with most things from them,
the presentation is superb. (Creative Vibes) The lovely style of pop
from Sydney based outfit Halogen has risen again, this time on
their latest single On A Bridge (MGM) Maxim's De Paris is a
compilation of music that's been played at the famous Maxim's club in
Paris, with some great DJ sets being featured here. (Creative Vibes)
Something For Kate have released the latest single from their
amazing Echolalia album, Say Something, which I always said should
have been a single. Fresh from their second spot in Triple J's
Hottest 100, this single should see them hit even bigger heights.
(Sony) A sort of follow on from the soundstage left vacant by the
fabulous Skunkhour, Purrvert from West Australia have released
a cool new ep called Tale Spinners, offering some sounds with a
difference. (MGM) Nine Inch Nails have long been fan
favourites & they have again excelled, with their brilliant live
album And All That Could Have Been (Universal) Looking For Andrew
Bradley is the rather unusual title for a cool hip hop album from
Quro. It's a refreshing look at hip hop on the Australian
scene (Creative Vibes) Finally, last but by no means least is the
brilliant new ep called Fly, from Nathan Gaunt & The Blackeyed
Dogs. I'm sure we'll all be hearing more from these guys. (MGM)
Cya next time...
