Already well underway towards her dream of becoming known for her music, Aleesha Rome's sound is gathering speed towards the pointy end of the charts. Comparisons towards the success & sound of Britney Spears have been made in passing & if things go as planned, there's little reason to see why it won't happen.
Heading up to the release of the album, I caught up with Aleesha over the phone & asked a number of questions, to which she had very confident answers all along the way through our conversation, the young age, good looks & voice belying a pretty level headed approach to what's ahead.
Aleesha opened up straight away about where she's come from to date & what she'd like to achieve.
"I've
always loved singing & dancing, so I guess it's been a bit of a
dream to get to where I am now. At some stage I really want to go
overseas & see what I can achieve over there, but I'm not going
with any expectations, I know it's going to be hard work."
Already getting some good radio airplay & TV exposure for all the singles to date, Aleesha is well versed on what works & what doesn't when it comes to her music.
"We never expected to get airplay on Triple J, because my songs just don't fit their format, but thats okay, because I know that, but stations like 2DAY FM have been good & I've already had some good successes with shows on TV, so I hope people like what they hear enough to buy the album."
When asked about how she got into the music scene, Aleesha is very straightforward.
"I just got lucky I guess. At first, when I got the deal with Alberts, I was working part time & doing recording at Alberts during lunch hours, but now I'm doing it full time, so there's something that I always wanted to to, become a singer full time, so even if nothing else happens much, I've already made it to here."
As with many artists, there's a definite image & style process happening & I asked about the behind the scenes approach to Aleesha's overall look.
"I have an input to what everything looks like to a certain extent, but all the photography & that sort of thing gets decided by the producers. I guess my look is really decided by what I want to wear & that sort of thing, so without me deciding on that, hair & make up & that sort of thing, the whole thing would look a lot different."
In similar fashion, Aleesha has left much of the rest of the things, such as the website, the songs & other items to other people, but she's had her say.
"When I first started doing the recording for the album, the songwriter & I found that different things worked with my voice, so things have turned out the way they have on the album because of me. The same thing with the website. I don't know much about it, so I'm only sort of helping out with some things on that, you know, leaving those things to the people who know."
Finally, Aleesha's looking at doing some more recording in the near future.
"Yeah, I love doing the recording. It's like doing interviews, the live stuff & that. It's all so much of a part of the job & that's what I do now as my job. After I go overseas, I'm looking forward to getting back into some more recording. I hope people like the album so that I'll be able to do it."
