ANDREW PEREZ - (SELF TITLED)
Coming out of Los Angeles in the US, Andrew Perez's music is certainly based around melodic pop style, obviously influenced by The Beatles as noted in his bio, but there's more to the ear than that might indicate & I think Andrew's music shows much promise & even at this early stage, the production quality is fairly high.
Presented across 3 tracks, this demo is certainly one that demands your attention. While the opening track "Long Haul" is certainly good, it's the closer "No One To Blame" which has a great addictive quality the lyrics are certainly well thought out. With the right mindset (which he obviously possesses) & a little luck, Andrew will go far & I'll be interested in his progress from here.

BIDSTON
MOSS - DEATH TO THE MF
A band whose growing repertoire of songs has really grabbed my attention over the last few years, Bidston Moss now release their latest single in the lead up to their new album which will be called A Nice Lie Down & it's a very cool slice of slightly aggro pop.
The vocals are pretty much the defining essence of the band's music, with the title track here being the pick of the 3 songs featured, with the aforementioned vocals doing the business, backed by a nicely aggressive chorus section. A slightly quieter effort is "Mud Muppet", plus a bonus track is a live recording of "Armadillo", which many will love. I look forward to the album with interest.

COASTAL
FRONT - NAIVE SOUL
A band coming from my own local area of the Central Coast of New South Wales in Australia, Coastal Front have been slowly growing their reputation, at first a band whose repertoire consisted of many covers of popular bands like Led Zeppelin & Cold Chisel among many others, but the band have been adding to their original compositions, with some very interesting tracks which populate this album.
The opener "Too Many People" is a great introduction to the band's sound, which on their original material is quite diverse. Second in is the title track & the piano accompaniment is very effective here, with a catchy chorus. It's the closing track "Will Do" however, which really captured my attention, with it's bluesy feel, backed up by a superb harmonica section. I'll be very interested to see how the band proceed from here.

THE
FLESHPEDDLERS - FALLING INTO A DREAM
If you're looking for a band to fill the gap left by Pop Will Eat Itself, I think I've found them. Running some similar themes throughout many songs on this album, theirs is a sound which is similar yet unique, with the band having their own distinct sound that'll attract a fair sort of audience I would think.
The opening track is a nicely aggressive sort of electronic track called "Disco Song", which reminded me of a somewhat wound back Atari Teenage Riot. It's hard to pick a definitive favourite, but one of the standouts for me was the remarkable "Bittersweet", while both "Kitty's Eyes" & the title track are both big highlights. Take a listen to a band that's making their presence felt & who are building their back catalogue as well. This album is a more than worthy addition to that.

FULL
CHROME MOLLY - VOLUME
A Melbourne outfit who formed in 1999, Full Chrome Molly have been fortunate enough to gain airplay on a few shows on Triple J, not the least of which was the Oz Music Show, indicating that someone is taking notice of the band's music outside their own circle.
Facing up with 10 tracks, the band have a fairly diverse style, with frontwoman Rachael Lesley's voice a dominating force in some songs, while it sits nicely with the instrumental in others. A couple of tracks really stand out here, one being second in "Supplementary Number", which is one of the band's harder edged songs, while others like "9:09" are a softer feel that's got a slightly funky feel, though in the end, I think "8 Steps" is probably my pick here. This is definitely a band about to make an impression in my estimation.

JUST
PLAIN TODD - CATERPILLAR DAYDREAMS
A very diverse album that sure doesn't give you any indication as to it's depth by either the band's named, or the album title. It's the product of a 3 piece out of the US & the style is a whole mix of things, so it's possibly best to leave comparisons alone for the moment.
The opening track "2.00am alone with my big 29" Lover" is almost out on it's own, as a very raw edged piece of work, capturing the spirit & a little of the sound of Neil Young's more guitar prone moments, while others, like "Eggshells (Hardboiled)" grab a handful of keyboards to go along with the guitars, pushed a little more on my pick track "Waterfalls", which is a softer feel altogether. There's sure something here for just about anyone & I reckon you'd do well to take a look for yourself.

SIX
FOOT SIX - (SELF TITLED)
Forming in the US in 1997, Six Foot Six is the result of remnants of 3 bands, with 4 members, whose style & sound revolves around the harder edged sounds of metal, with a fairly hardcore feel to all the 4 tracks on the ep & fans of bands like Crowbar & to a certain extent Biohazard will find themselves right at home here.
Across the ep, the band's sound is quite consistent, with the opening of the first track, "Hellbox" starting off with a light acoustic moment, before grinding down into a hard edged grind of guitars & vocals, the bass & percussion just a little washed back in the mix. Pick for me was "Hate You", which is the track with the most venom, as well as some groove. A band showing much promise.

SNOWBOOT
- (SELF TITLED)
A pretty interesting 4 track ep, that as the bio says, is fairly well influenced by the likes of Prince & others of the 'soul pop' & dance scene. Coming out of Philadelphia in the US, Snowboot is a solo project & has some interesting sounds, as well as being self produced.
It's the closing track "Down With You" that really does the business, though the opening track "Sunday Mournin" is a great little number as well, with a presence that the remaining 2 songs "Radio Baby" & "The Record Will Spin" don't quite hit. The quality of these songs make it obvious that Snowboot has been around & has worked hard on what we hear on this ep, an album's worth of songs may prove the making of the project altogether.

STEVE
BEVIS - PUT OUT THE SUN / HOLD UP THE SKY
A great double album from Steve Bevis, an artist hailing from just outside Sydney. The album is a very interesting piece of work, with the first album revolving largely around acoustic guitar work accompanied by Steve's quite distinctive vocals.
As mentioned, there are 2 CDs here, with CD 1 subtitled Put Out The Sun & on this CD, there are a significant number of acoustic tracks running the length of the CD, my pick being "Mystery Of You", though the 2 or 3 bonus tracks which are unlisted are great inclusions & should have been credited as they're great songs.
CD 2 is subtitled Hold Up The Sky & it's on this CD that I found myself having the most enjoyment, with a few tracks really standing out, those being an unlisted bonus track, "Hundred Walls", "Nations On Parade" which features a wonderful vocal performance, as well as standout "Outside That Wall". Surely an artist who will be making an impact very surely I suspect.

SUB/URBAN
- TRADEMARK LINES
A very cool 3 or 4 piece band (depending on how you read their bio) from Victorian based outfit Sub/Urban, which will no doubt go a long way to impress anyone who manages to catch the sounds on this 4 track ep that's a very strong effort & sounds excellent.
The ep features 2 main tracks & 2 acoustic 'bonus' tracks that I loved just as much as the opening 2. The opening track is the title number & starts out strongly, with both it & "Kamikaze Mind" having a characteristic bass heavy feel & great vocals, with both acoustic songs "Welcome Back To Planet Earth" & "In Time We Live" showing that the band are quite confident performing without amplification as well. Again, a very strong effort & I hope an album's worth of material is as good as this.

SUEZ
- (SELF TITLED)
A German based 4 piece formed in 1996, Suez certainly show much promise on this 5 track ep & have a live pedigree playing alongside such bands as The The, JJ72 & Fastball among others, which stands them in good stead for what may be to come if they get the exposure they deserve here.
Unfortunately, the band haven't given any song titles for this ep, but the whole thing is very good, including some excellent production standards, which makes listening all that much easier. I loved the open feel of track 3, which is a great instrumental, while both the opener, second in & closing numbers are all big impact tracks that will no doubt attract the attention of any serious listener. I'll be interested to see how this band progress from here.

SYMPATHIE
GRILL - INFLIGHT ENT
After listening to this 4 track ep, I don't think outstanding is too strong a word, because it is exactly that. A comparison with this band isn't too difficult & it's not too long a bow to draw to say that this Sydney suburbs based band could well be a great stand in for the experimentation & quality of Radiohead.
It's a wonderful ep that really captures the imagination even from the opening 60 seconds of the first track, "Karaoke Mind". The pick here for me is closing track "ex Pat", a stunning piece, dominated by both the wonderful vocals & the percussion, which characterises the sound of the songs here, as it sits well in the forefront of their sound. Most experimental here is "All You Can Eat", which takes a while to play itself out. Great stuff & I for one, can't wait to hear some more material from these guys.
