ALPHAVOX - (SELF TITLED)

An interesting sound this, coming from Florida based duo Alphavox, which takes in reference points as diverse as trip hop & drum & bass, all of which can be heard throughout the album, but which certainly take the untrodden path of mutating those influences into something not entirely dissimilar, but certainly a little removed from what you might expect.

There are some great tracks here, from opening track "Foreign Land", to the jungle style of closing number "Where Have U Taken Me?", merging some more traditional rock sounds into the mix on a few tracks. It's hard to pick a real favourite, but "Method Of Madness" seemed to be the track that really stood out for me. The band are currently seeking a recording deal & they're certainly doing something few bands are at this point in time.

ARNOLD HUGO STOLTING - DO YOU WANNA MAKE LOVE TONIGHT

Although not wrapped in expensive artwork for the promo version, this is a very cool 2 track dance single that should do well in the club scene, with some great sounds running the length of the track. A music industry veteran, Arnold has put together a couple of different mixes of the same track.

The first is what will be the radio edit of the single, with a very catchy hook to it & an impressive backbeat as well. Second up is the 7 minute mix, which extends the same idea to it's limit & it's this one that'll probably make the impact on the clubbers, while the radio edit should surely pick up some decent airplay. I'll be fascinated to hear some more material as it comes to hand from Arnold.

ATOMIC SOUL EXPERIENCES - REMIX WORKS

There's a whole swag of great tracks here, from Japanese outfit Atomic Soul Experiences that a lot of people will love. I'm not sure if the samples here have been licensed as yet, but the end product should go right off & sell enough to cover the licensing fees I reckon.

If you take a listen to this, you'll recognise a god few of the samples. The whole style for most of the tracks is a very upbeat & rapid fire dance feel with a sort of Japanese jungle thing happening, some of the songs featuring some superb scratching & sampling, track 2 in particular using an old Beatles track, Taxman.

Closing out (sorry, don't have a tracklisting), is a beautifully performed song with a fantastic female vocalist, which really finishes the ep off in real style. I've heard of this band before & if you want a great listening experience, then definitely check this band out.

CRADLEMINT - BLEND

A band who have been around since 1995, already releasing their debut CD, which was a 15 tracker, creating something of a stir in media & on radio with their very interesting style. The band's music on this CD I think would be a step above what they've done before & the title of the album certainly puts a few ideas into your head.

As a whole listening experience, there's a fascinating bunch of styles which run from a Custard-like sound, through to reminiscent sounds of bands like early B52s & even the pop of The Beatles, on one of the highlight tracks here, "Big Star", which is a song that could do very well given the coverage.

You'll find a lot to like over the course of the songs here, running from slightly eccentric to more serious pop, all performed with great skill & timing & showcasing a band not afraid to experiment & get away with it. Blend demonstrates a band who are well evolved & ready to please.
