JEREMIAH
KELLY died 8 years after the family's
arrival in Australia. The family then went to live at Mintaro, near Clare,
where they had relatives. James was educated at the nearby Jesuit College
at Sevenhill.
Mintaro and Clare are in the heart of the South
Australian wine growing district, the Clare Valley, situated 80 km north
of Adelaide.
Honor
married David McNamara and settled in Adelaide. They had 5 children.
Patrick took up land at Mt Rufus near Mintaro, He married
Ellen Brady and they had 9 children.
James
took up land at Hornsdale, north of Jamestown, about 70 km further north
from Mintaro. He married Catherine Erwin, whose family came from the Clare
area. It seems that his mother and sister Anne accompanied him
to Hornsdale, and both are buried in the cemetery at Appila, a nearby
town.
James and Catherine had 8 children. They left Hornsdale and moved
to Adelaide in 1902.
KELLY BAKER
CELEBRATION 150 YEARS
This celebration brings together descendants of Honor,
Patrick and James.
Many still live in South Australia, but others have settled throughout
Australia and overseas.
There will be members from at least 4 generations present at the celebration,
making it a unique event.
In 1954, descendants of the Kelly Baker family met in Adelaide at
Cabra Convent, 102 years after the first arrival in South Australia. This
group drew up a basic family tree of the 5 generations born in Australia.
A group of cousins are organising this celebration of the 150th anniverary.
We are continuing to compile the family tree, so please send
us your details, date and place of birth, and a thumbnail sketch of
who you are and what you do.

Clare is a 2 hour car journey from Adelaide. There is a bus service. Clare
is a pretty region, which caters for large numbers of tourists who come
for the scenery and the wineries which abound, there are walking trails
and sites of historical significance.
Accommodation ranges from tents or cabins in the caravan park, to
motels, hotels and many bed and breakfast places.
Contact the Clare Valley Visitor Information Centre for advice and
bookings. Phone 08 8842 2131 or see our website link (up and running soon).
As the weekend proposed is a long weekend in SA with a holiday on
the Monday, we anticipate that accommodation may be fairly heavily booked,
so our advice is to book early.
