My Experience within the field of
Electronic News Gathering

At present my work consists of shooting stories and Live Link operator for the Nine Network (Australia) within their Gold Coast Bureau. I also do occassional videotape editing with stories for the nightly news bulletin. The Bureau consists of a fulltime staff of seventeen people (including six ENG cameraman and seven reporters). Nine Gold Coast produces a local thirty minute News Bulletin (Monday to Friday, 5:30pm) as well as providing packaged stories and live cross capability to the National News programs of the Nine Network.

The area covered by the Nine Gold Coast Bureau has a population of around 500,000 people. All members of the team are rostered to cover the seven days of the week, and be available for call outs around the clock.

The equipment that I use consists of a Sony DNW-9WS Betacam SX Camcorder. The three editing systems that we work with consist of DNW-75 and PVW-2800 Betacam machines (one with a Sony BVE-600 edit controller), and an Avid NLE system. We have been shooting and editing in "Wide-Screen" format (16x9) since the year 2001,

In my 23 years within the Broadcast TV Industry, I have gained regular experience in shooting from helicopters. This includes many hours in Bell 206 Jetrangers and Longrangers, Aerospatiale AS350's, Bell 412 and Hughes 500's. As well, I have spent over nine years working in Live Link Vehicles and some limited experience with flyaway SNG systems. I'm also qualified at scuba diving, and did a weekly shoot with a underwater camera for about a year.
