Beijing 2007
The
last time I was in Beijing was in 2000 when I was
performing over the gateway of the Australian
embassy to promote the 100 day countdown to the
Sydney 2000 Olympics. The Chinese were going for
the 2008 bid and they were successful.

People are really getting into the spirit of the games here. Check out this outdoor gym.

This time I am here for a new Festival of Australian Theatre. It is a showcase of the diverse theatre that Australia produces. Beijing has really changed quite a lot since I was here last. The skyline has transformed but one thing that has remained is that very few people can speak or understand English. This is prevelant whenever you got into a taxi cab.
One thing that is fantastic about Beijing is the food.

On the first night we had Peking Duck from a very famous restaurant that roasted the duck in stone ovens over wood and it was a devine experience.
The first place we performed in was near the construction site of the the new China Central Television building and it is shaping up to be a spectacular structure, even if they couldn't get it to stand straight. Eventually the two will join at the top.

The other venue was the Chaoyang Park, a public park with Amusements in a wonderful setting with man made lakes.

It was such a huge park that they even had little cars to get around in. How cute is this! Shame it couldn't go faster than a snail.

The Chinese were treated to the first overseas debut of the Synchroswing show and they cacked themselves. It was a lot of fun but I wish I remembered my ballet support before I left home. They got an eye full of sausage and veg that they didn't bargin for.
Here are a few prize shots from the last gig.

I am off to Perth in three days to perform at a function so best way to get through jetlag is to keep going. Heading straight to a party for the Melbourne Cup this afternoon and drinkies at the Gin Palace tonight for their 10th year anniversary.
Cheers!
