A fun-filled one-day workshop designed specifically for the Australian tourist or business executive visiting Hong Kong, PRC China or Taiwan.
Rationale
Unlike certain countries in South East Asia (eg. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand) where English is widely spoken, the East Asian countries of mainland China (Peoples Republic of China) and Taiwan use Mandarin as the most common form of verbal communication.
As a tourist visiting these countries, it is mandatory that you know a few words of this language. Not only will it help you enjoy more of your holidays but it will also add that extra dimension of fun trying it out with the "locals". Your tourist guide will not always be there with you. Knowing certain key words for any emergencies that may arise could save you a lot of trouble or embarrassment. Certainly, if you are travelling by yourself, what you will learn in this workshop will essentially be part of your survival kit.
Workshop Objectives
In this workshop, participants will be taught how to speak the most commonly used Chinese phrases and some of the more important words that you may need to use during your stay in China or Taiwan.
The main topics covered include:
- Numbers (1-100, 1000's)
- Working with money
- Telling the time
- Greetings
- Pronouns and Interrogatives
- Practicalities and emergencies
In addition, integrated with the language studies, some Chinese social customs and culture will be covered.
The approach used to teach all this is based wholly on Accelerative Learning principles.
Can I Really Learn So Much In This Workshop?
You will be taught approximately 100 words of spoken Mandarin using Accelerative Learning techniques in one day! It should be understood that Accelerative Learning is not "Miraculous Learning" and that participants will still need to practise what they have learnt from this workshop. This is similar to learning any new skill eg. driving a car, riding a bike etc. Practice makes perfect! Hence, the course materials provided is very comprehensive to help you remember the words that you have learnt with us in just this one day. In addition to the course notes, we also provide an audio tape with clear pronunciations of the words you have learnt. A pocket-sized glossary of these words is also provided as a quick reference guide.
