MURCHISON WINS IN THE WESTWestern Australian young gun Christian Murchison has stormed to two home town victories at the sixth round of the Ford Motorsport/Slick 50 Australian Formula Ford Championship, at Barbagallo Raceway (Perth).The seventeen-year-old Van Diemen driver beat current series leader Adam Macrow to the first corner in race one, and was never headed on his way to victory, with Ford Generation XR driver Tim Leahey second and Christian Jones third. Macrow’s race was cut short on the first lap, however, when his gear shift broke on the back straight, while Dugal McDougall crashed out after he was caught in another driver’s spin on the ninth lap. Murchison repeated the dose in race two, outsprinting Christian Jones into the first corner, then pressing home the advantage in another all-the-way win. Jones fended off Leahey for second overall, with another Western Australian Kerry Wade fourth. Murchison was rapt with today’s victory in front of his home crowd. “It’s a fantastic feeling to win, especially here at Barbagallo,” Murchison says. “I’ve been getting closer each time I’ve raced and this time it all came together. My team manager Brett Lupton and the Fastlane Racing team prepared the perfect car for the conditions, and that also helped my confidence to do my best. “At the start of the year I was looking to win the Rookie of
the Year award, but now I’ve also got my sights on the top three outright
in the Championship.”
