Round 2, Lakeside (Brisbane)
MACROW TURNS UP HEAT IN FORMULA FORD SHOOTOUT Melbourne Spectrum racer Adam Macrow has taken pole position by less than a tenth of a second over series rival Dugal McDougall for tomorrow's second round of the Ford Motorsport/Slick 50 Australian Formula Ford Championship. Macrow, 19, snatched pole from McDougall (Mygale) in the second of two qualifying sessions today in searing conditions at Queensland's Lakeside raceway. Despite track temperatures estimated to be in excess of 50 degrees Celsius, Macrow improved his lap time from the generally quicker morning session to set up an all-Victorian front row for the first of tomorrow's two all-important races. Van Diemen pilot Greg Ritter and Queenslander Christian Jones will start on the second row of the grid in what is expected to be the closest racing of the weekend. Macrow is delighted to be starting from pole tomorrow but does not expect to win as easily as he did two months ago at Sandown. "There's not much in it really, is there? A fraction of a second separates the top ten runners so it'd be a game man who made any rash predictions about tomorrow," Adam Macrow says. "Naturally I'm rapt to be on pole but frankly anyone who stays anywhere near the front group has a half-decent chance to win, so it's really about who does the best job on the day. "My Spectrum's a very good package though, so if I can stay out of strife, I reckon I've got a pretty good pretty chance tomorrow," Macrow says.
