1998 Ford Motorsport/Slick 50 Australian Formula Ford Championship Round 5, Mallala (South Australia) Sunday, 24th May 1998 MACROW DOMINATES AT MALLALAFord Motorsport Brat Pack driver Adam Macrow has stormed away from the rest of the Australian Formula Ford Championship field after winning both races, at Mallala today. Macrow (Vic), who now enjoys a formidable 81 point lead over nearest rival Christian Jones, launched off the start line and was never headed in the first heat at the South Australian circuit. Fellow Spectrum racer Christian Jones (Qld) harried the 19-year old Victorian throughout the 10 lap race, before a lapped competitor held him up long enough to seal Macrow’s victory. Macrow then repeated the dose in the second race although this time Jones was able to close in towards the end of the race. The Victorian held on to win by several car lengths, despite Jones setting a new lap record for Mallala in the 10th and final lap. Adam Macrow is now in the box seat to win a drive with Tony Longhurst’s Ford Falcon team at Bathurst in November as part of the Generation XR prize package for Formula Ford. “Obviously I’m pleased with the win, but we’ve still got three rounds and 120 points up for grabs, so I’m not cracking the Champagne just yet,” Adam Macrow says. Western Australian rookie Christian Murchison finished third in the first race after starting from eighth on the grid, and held of Tim Leahey in the second race for third overall on the day. Dugal McDougall, however, endured a frustrating day. After fighting back to tenth from 17th on the grid in the first race, McDougall slipped back out of the points in the second race.
