Five Bingo Game !

I got to play Natalie (my name for her is ANTLIAE) in my first game last Monday night. The previous week she played outside her comfort zone to get the better of me with two absolute gambles. The first gamble involved using her vowel-less rack to play a bingo through a floating E to make BLoTLESS. I jokingly asked her place that word in a sentence and she couldn't but the joke was on me as my challenge was unsuccessful. Late in the game she was well behind but held RENAILS on her rack with the only bingo opening requiring Y as the eighth letter. She hesitatingly spelt out SNAILERY while declaring that she could only win by trying it. This time I didn't bother to challenge.

This week, I started better with FORELAID immediately followed by SPEARINg. Natalie came back with SLITTER (66),  and sHIRK (52) and ZA (44)  but SWORE for 51 and my strategic IOLITE dump ensured a revenge win.

The next game saw me pitted against our improving Lila, whose bingo-finding capability is more impressive than ever. However, this time it was I who was destined to find all the bingos. I complained aloud as I picked the letters one by one to place in my opening rack. W, U, L, I  - some of my least favourite letters - and then O, A and R. How unlucky - or was it? Something clicked and I saw WOURALI appear out of that dross. Down it went and another bunch of vowels replenished my second rack - O, A, A, E, then H, L and a blank. Hello, hallo, HALLOAEd I exclaimed to myself and that is what I played through the open L of WOURALI. I couldn't believe my luck as I assembled SCREWIE on my third rack and was able to play it onto the still-open R of WOURALI. DAZE (50) and BOK (44) followed, then by the 9th turn I had assembled INTERNS with my S placed on the end of WOURALI. I had previously played EF onto an R so when I collected HIdEOUT on my 11th turn I could hook the T onto REF to score my 5th bingo.

I made Maggie a happy camper in the last game when I stumbled to defeat to her for the first time in about 10 attempts. I'm not sure if everyone in the Club noticed her win when she jumped high out of her seat ala the Toyota ad and announced her achievement at the top of her voice 3 times. Apparently, this was one of the items on her "Ten things I must do before I die" list.
