ainted by Ferrer Bassa, the most important illuminator of the XIVth century, by order of King Pedro el Ceremonioso for his wife Queen María of Navarre who rests in the King's pantheon in Monastery of Poblet. It is undoubtedly the most important manuscript of the Spanish Gothic Art due to the extraordinary quality of its 391 miniatures. It is the First Book of Hours of the Iberian Peninsula comprising 704 pages sized 124 x 183 mm. It is held at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Ms Lat. 104/12640.
This issue comprises a Facsimile of The Book of Hours of Maria of Navarre and a commentary volume with a codicological study by Susy Marcon of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, a historical and artistic study by Joaquín Yarza, professor of History of Art at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, transcription by Maria Josefa Arnall of the University of Barcelona and translation by J. M. García de la Mora of the University of Barcelona. It contains an abstract in English and German.
This unique issue is limited to 987 copies, numbered and authenticated by affidavit. The facsimile is presented in a protective case.
The original manuscript, in Italy since 1342, belongs to the Treasure of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. The publishers would like to earnestly thank the Ministero peri Beni Culturali e Ambientali for granting them permission to reproduce this piece of art in an almost-original edition.
