he Book of Hours of Charles VIII contains 258 magnificent miniatures in 17 colours and is lavishly illuminated with more than 200 ornamental bands that enliven the borders. Within the body of the text there is a profusion of small miniatures interspersed with the Old and New Testament motifs, the life of the Virgin and battle scenes. The Book was illustrated by Jacques de Besançon, master of the great miniature school of Tours that flourished in the middle of the 15th century.
This issue comprises two volumes: a facsimile of The Book of Hours of Charles VIII, King of France (323 pages) and a critical study, in Spanish, written by Dr. Ana Domínguez, professor of History of Art in the Complutense University of Madrid. The Facsimile is printed on especially hand made paper for this codex reproducing the thickness, touch and smell of the original manuscript. The facsimile is presented in a protective case and is sized 260 x 180 mm.
