TASMANIAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

The Inaugural Tasmanian State 49er Championships was held at Swansea on Tasmania’s East Coast on the 29th February and 1st March 1998.  A series of nine races over the two days contested by seven boats has seen Stuart Hamilton and Paul Wyatt sailing their 49er ROK crowned the inaugural state champions.

Swansea turned on near perfect conditions for the fleet with 8 to 15 knot steady breezes on each day.  Day one five races were sailed with ROK winning each heat followed very closely by a mixture of Tassal sailed by National Sharpie Champions Frazer Read and Justin Wells, Peter Johnston Shipchandlers sailed by Stuart Bale and Richard Goodfellow, Duck Clothing sailed by the Rees brothers and Incat with John McCullum and Craig Clifford, Fader Marine, Edward Fader and Sam Ibbott.  In three of the first five races there was no more than 60 seconds between first and last place.

Day two was again sailed in perfect 10- 12 knot winds with an extra boat joining the fleet sailed by Nick Behrens and Anna Miedecke.  ROK had three wins and a second with Tassal winning one heat.  Overall results are as follows
