1. Rules
The Regatta will be governed by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, the Prescriptions and Special Regulations of the AYF, the Rules of the 49er Class Association (except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions) and by the Sailing Instructions.
2. Alterations of Class Rules
There will be no alterations to the class
rules
3. Alterations of Racing Rules
The racing rules will be modified in accordance with rule 86 as follows:
3.1 Rule 44.2, 720 Deg Turns Penalty will be altered by: ‘replacing 720 by 360’.
4. Advertising
The Regatta is classified as a Category C Event in accordance with Appendix G and the Prescriptions of the AYF.
When a boat wishes to display advertising beyond the limitations of Appendix G, Category B, an advertising supplement will be charged as set out in clause 6.
Boats may be required to display numbers and advertising of the Event Sponsor. Boats may be required to display such numbers and advertising on each side of the forward 25% of the hull and/or the bottom half of the jib. In this case such numbers and advertising will be provided at registration.
5. Eligibility and Entry
5.1 The regatta is open to boats of the 49er Class.

Accompanied by the required fee (see item 6).
Entries may be accepted after the 21 November at the discretion of the Organising Committee together with a late entry fee.
5.4 The following conditions will apply:-
(a) One set of sails shall be used.
All sails will be stamped at registration.
(b) One forestay shall be used and shall
meet the class specification for replacement forestays.
All forestays
will be tagged during registration.
(c) Corrector lead shall be as supplied
by the manufacturer.
(d) National letters shall precede the
sail number with letters and numbers on the
starboard
side uppermost.
The equipment limited above shall only be replaced
with the permission of the Regatta Manager.
5.5 Insurance:
All competing boats shall have third party insurance
cover of not less than Aus$1,000,000 (recommended Aus$5,000,000) or the
equivalent thereof in any other currency for any accident.
All competitors must show proof of current insurance at registration.
5.6 Rights to Use Name and Likeness.
In participating in this Event, a competitor
automatically grants to the Organising Authority and the
sponsors of the event, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show,
from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures, still motion
pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of
him/her for the period of the competition for the said event in which
the competitor participates and in all material related to the said
event without compensation.
5.7 Television & Media
Competitors may be required to carry on-board
cameras, sound equipment and positioning equipment provided by the Organising
Authority. Competitors shall be available
until the close of protest time each evening for media interviews.
5.8 Disclaimer.
It is the competitor’s decision to enter the
Event, or to start and continue in any race. Competitors shall
accept that their participation in the event is at their exclusive risk
in every respect.
The organising authority, and the host
club, their officers, members,servants, and agents accept no responsibility
in respect of loss of life,personal injury or loss or damage to property
which may be sustained by reason of their participation or intended in
the event or howsoever arising in connection with the event.
6 Fees
6.1 Required Fees:

6.2 Other fees:
Late entries may be accepted until December
21st on payment of an additional fee of $100.--.
6.3 Fees must be paid in Australian currency. Payment by Visa Card, MasterCard or Bankcard, Amex, postal orders, or bank cheques in Australian dollars will be accepted.

Registration, measurement and weighing of competitors will take place at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.
All boats shall be stored and rigged at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.
Racing will take place in fleets as per the 49er Class Event Format Manual. A Qualification and Finals Series will be held.
The Presentation Dinner will be held on the evening
of 3 January 1998, following the finals races. All prizes will
be presented at this dinner.
8. Measurement
(a) All sails shall be measured by the 49er
Class Measurer on the programmed measurement days and shall comply with
the 49er Class Rules.
(b) All equipment
(c) All competing boats shall be made available
for measurement by the 49er Class Measurer or his/her representative at
any time during the Regatta.
9. Sailing Instructions
The Sailing instructions will be available
after 9:00 on Sunday 27 December 1998 at the Regatta office, Royal Yacht
Club of Tasmania.
10. Regatta Site
The regatta site will be as shown in illustration
‘A’, attached.
11. Racing Area
The racing will be as shown in illustration ‘B’, attached.
12. Courses
The courses shall be windward & return
as per the 49er event manual, and
detailed in the sailing instructions.
Courses will be set to allow a race duration
of approximately 25 minutes.
13. Scoring
The low point scoring system, Appendix A.2
will apply.

in the sailing instructions
A minimum of three races of each group must
be completed in the
Qualification Series to constitute an event.
14. Penalty System
The 720 deg turns penalty system as described
in Rule 44.2 will apply as amended in 3.1.
15. Decision of the Jury
Decisions of the Jury will be final in accordance
with racing rule 70.4.
Approval to deny the right of appeal has
been applied for.
16. Support Boats
Support boats shall display the identification of the team or nation they represent.
All support boats shall keep clear and to leeward of all competitors when racing.
19. Radio Communications
A boat shall neither make radio transmission
whilst racing or receive radio
communication not available to all boats
20. Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:-

3rd Australian Championship
Other prizes at the discretion of the Organising
Authority
21. Qualification for Subsequent Events
If required the event will be used as a
qualification series for the 1999
World Championships
22. ISAF Eligibility
The regatta has been approved as required
in accordance with Rule K3.2.
