How to create images for animation

Back to Christmas Activities

Step 1:
  • open a 'AppleWorks Office' drawing document
  • click on WINDOW menu then PAGE VIEW
  • consider the size of the animation
eg 1- 5cm by 1-5cm (zoom in for details)
  • work within this space
  • use the FREEHAND drawing tool
  • draw closed shapes and fill with colour
  • draw each part separately
  • move together and layer if need be
  • group where possible
  • DON'T group parts to be changed (eg arm)
Step 2:
  • click on EDIT then SELECT ALL (CTRL_A)
  • without grouping, duplicate (CTRL_D)
  • click on part of picture and drag to new space
  • SAVE often (CTRL_S)
  • use FREEHAND tool to redraw parts
  • eg draw over the red part of the hat in a new position
  • fill with colour and delete original shape
  • move fluff ball at and of hat to new position
  • do same for arm - draw new shape over the top
  • delete old shape and reposition cuff and hand
  • slightly resize the hair

Step 3:
  • use POINTER to draw around all of this picture
  • this should get all the handles for it
  • duplicate this picture (CTRL_D)
  • click on part of it and drag to new space
  • repeat the process of redrawing parts of the picture
  • delete old parts
  • repeat this process as often as you like
  • many small changes look better than a few big changes
  • extra: AppleWorks Slide Show can be used to view the
animation if each image has been put in the same position
    on a new page
