STEP

open a new MS Word document
-
click on FILE then PAGE SETUP
-
select PAPER SIZE then LANDSCAPE <OK>
-
click on the ZOOM button in the toolbar
at the top and select WHOLE PAGE
-
if drawing toolbar is not showing
at the bottom, click on VIEW then TOOLBARS then DRAWING
-
in this toolbar at bottom click on
DRAW then GRID and select SNAP objects to other objects

STEP 2

select RECTANGLE tool in drawing toolbar
-
hold SHIFT and click and drag to draw
a square
-
double click inside square
-
select SIZE
-
change height and width to to 6cm
-
with handles still on square hold
CTRL and tap D for duplicate
-
use mouse then arrow keys to position
2nd square next to 1st square

STEP 3
-
hold CTRL and tap D two more times
- these squares should be in the right place
-
repeat two more times but will need
to reposition these squares yourself

-
click on AUTOSHAPES in drawing toolbar
-
select BASIC SHAPES then TRAPEZOID
-
click and drag to draw 'tab' on side
of square
-
use CTRL_D to duplicate this
-
click on DRAW then ROTATE or FLIP
to reposition the tabs - where needed

STEP

-
add gradients to each box ensuring
that the flow of colour matches at each edge
-
do this by clicking on the bottom
square first
- this is where the name goes later
-
click on the arrow on the right of
the bucket tool in the toolbar at the bottom
-
select FILL EFFECTS then GRADIENTS
-
click on two colours and choose
-
for the base and lid use 'from the
centre'
-
for each side of the box choose the
gradient that flows out from the base colour

STEP 6
-
click on CLIPART button in bottom
toolbar
-
select clipart ONLINE at the top
-
type keywords 'Christmas decorations'
-
use only clipart that sort of looks
OK if upside down - can't rotate clipart on box
-
when inserted on document double click
on it then select LAYOUT at the top and then IN FRONT OF TEXT
-
use corner handles to resize the clipart
-
move to fit into a square

STEP 7
-
click on WORD ART tool in bottom toolbar
-
type your name
-
resize and position onto top or base
of box
OR
-
use a TEXT FRAME to type name
-
make font bold and resize if necessary

-
print and cut out
-
attach one end of a cotton thread
to a match stick or toothpick and the other end to a needle
-
poke needle through the top of the
box until the stick is tight on the other side
-
fold and glue tabs to sides
-
hand on Christmas tree
