Inspired by the story of The Tinder Box by Hans Christian Andersen, in which the dogs are guardians, respectively, of chests of copper, silver and gold. The first, this one, has "eyes as big a saucers". As agents of men I made the dogs rather mechanical, man-made and metallic, each to his particular metal. They are also aggressive in form, but mildly, as this is a children’s story. The spaces at the feet of the dogs just might appear to be eyes if seen at a certain angle. |
