Funerary urn for a jockey

Terra-cotta clay. Tin glaze and underglaze. Hardwood base.  Approx. 400mm long

The horse is hollow. The ashes were put inside and the whole closed with a cork stopper and a seal. The horse was then attached to the base with velcro, ensuring another level of security.  The piece was made for a devoted horseman, who died too young.
