Wind Security   -   An Awakening Experience

Have you ever lain awake during a wild windy night wondering if the rear roof will come adrift from the top of the apex?   There are only two slide bolts holding it.   If you keep on thinking about it you won't get any sleep.

A recent windy trip along Spencers Gulf in SA, and later reading about a modification to a Sportsliner (see Increased Roof Wind Security in modification below)), prompted this modification for Aliners.

This is not the solution, but as I see it this could be an awakening experience.

Materials:

Bolt Security Door Chain x 2   -   (Available Bunnings @ $7.88each)

Heatshrink 20mm dia   -   white 1.2m (standard length)   -   (Dick Smith Electronics @ $9.50)

One pair of old walking socks.

Procedure:

Fit bolt security door chain as shown in pictures below.   I found it necessary to use more substantial self-tappers (than those supplied) for the slide mechanism.   Heatshrink tubing along the centre of the chain will stop it rattling during the night.   Allow for flexibility of the chain each end.

Because the chain hangs loose when closing the A'van an old sock tied at the top can slip over the chain and stop it rubbing on the side panels.

The security chain acts the same as the one fitted to your front door.   It will not stop a serious incident, however it should alert you in time so that you are able to take some other form of remedial action.
