When deciding on Brake and Clutch Master Cylinders to suit a Race Car there are a number of things to consider. First of these is the bore size to use to get the best braking with balance as close as possible to the ideal. This entails a series of calculations involving many factors including Disc Rotor size, Caliper piston diameters, Centre of Gravity, Vehicle weight distribution etc.
Once the size/s are determined you have to find appropriate cylinders - not always easy. But Tilton produce a range which covers almost every possibility, with bore sizes of: 5/8", .70", .75", 13/16", 7/8", 15/16", 1.0" and 1 1/8". All have common mounting hole centres 2 1/4" (57mm) apart. But it doesn't stop there. Tilton Master Cylinders are supplied as a COMPLETE KIT. Included with every cylinder is a choice of large or small Fluid Reservoirs, which can be fitted directly to the cylinder or away from it on a mounting bracket - supplied - connected with a special rubber hose - supplied again. Plus adaptors, residual pressure valve... NOTE: Tilton cylinders are not suited to replacing most Original Equipment Master Cylinders as they are single line, not tandem type, and cannot be used on a brake vacuum servo. They are designed as racecar Brake and Clutch cylinders, generally used together with a Brake Balance Bar.
