HORARY ASTROLOGY

As a mode of divination Horary Astrology is unequalled. It provides an answer to a specific question without reference to the horoscopes of the person asking the question or of a person asked about. It does not require any psychic faculty only an understanding of the nature and meaning of the Planets (including the Sun and the Moon), the Zodiacal Signs and the Houses of the Horoscope.

Apart from its value as a divinatory art, Horary Astrology should be cultivated because it leads to greater understanding of the basic astrological factors. It can be practised as an art on its own, without reference to any of the other branches of Astrology. It does itself comprise two branches, one for people seeking an answer to a personal question and the other, “Event Astrology”, for finding the answer to some matter of public interest. The latter form is not bound by the “Rules” applied to the first form.

There are a number of special rules that Horary practitioners use but to start divining the outcome all you need to know are a few basic facts:

  1. The person asking the question, “the Querent”, is represented by the Ascendant, its Ruler, any planets close to the Ascendant, and the Moon. Often the Moon is the most important of these.
  2. The person or thing asked about (the “Quesited”) is represented by the Descendant, its Ruler, and any planets close to the Descendant (7th Cusp).
  3. The answer is revealed by the Aspects to the relevant planets, considered in relation to their Houses and Signs.

How does one learn Horary Astrology? Learn by doing!   When you have a serious question, or an event of some significance occurs, set up a chart for the date, time and place and see what you can make of it.

METHOD

  1. Start by finding the most significant feature in the Chart. This will play a dominating role. It is typically a very close Aspect or complex of Aspects. If there are several highly significant features, graduate them mentally in order of importance.
  2. See how the significant features you have discovered bear upon the subject of your enquiry (Ascendant-Ruler and Moon), keeping in mind that past aspects of the Moon refer to what has already happened while applying Aspects reveal what is to come.
  3. Actually write out your conclusions. Keep the Chart and review it again when the matter is decided or the outcome is clear.

The Chart below is an Event Chart —an enquiry into what happened to a young woman who disappeared in August 1995 after attending a convivial gathering with friends. It is an actual case of a disappearance, recorded in the annals of the local police station.

The young woman, Tabbatha, left the party just after 11 pm and drove off in her car. She was not seen alive again. The Chart below was drawn up months after Tabbatha had disappeared and all police enquiries had not yielded any explanation.

This Chart is set for the time (11:10 pm) when Tabbatha left the party at a seaside resort and was last seen by her friends as she drove off into the night.

The most significant feature of this Event Chart is the Yod  involving Venus, the Ruler of the Ascendant, and the two malefic planets Saturn and Neptune in tight formation. This points to tragedy.

Looking now to the Moon, the other Significator of Tabbatha, we see it has just left the opposition of Pluto (the Destroyer) and is opposed by Jupiter ruling the House of Death.

It was fairly obvious that Tabbatha had died, other confirming indications being the Sun and Venus both square Pluto. Venus the Ruler quincunx to Saturn and Neptune spells out what happened to Tabbatha: She had drowned. No human agency was at work except her own careless driving, shown by the Moon ruling the 3rd House (transport) opposite Jupiter.

It is probable that Tabbatha had overindulged at the party and was under the influence of alcohol which destroyed her judgement and led to her death.

The car with her body still in it was discovered some months later in a canal during dredging operations.
