Archive Test 3-Male
Here is the third Archive Test to work through for practice in deciphering and reading Charts. Below is the Horoscope of a man born on 3rd April 1972 in Adelaide, Australia, at 4:26 am ACST. What was the important occurrence in his life on 27 April 1995?
This is a difficult question and conscientious working on it will bring the benefit of further experience in the application of Astrology to life. The answer is given but before reading it spend some time on working out your own conclusions. If you simply look at the Chart and then read the answer you will glean very little from the exercise.
I recommend following the method given in the first Archive Test (Instalment 49). Here is a worked analysis of the Test question along the given lines.
-
Look for any Planetary Station around the date 27 April 1995 and see if it contacts a Significator in the Natal Chart. If so, it will be an important factor and a strong clue to the nature of the event. On 5 May 1995, Uranus was Stationary at 0Aq28. Here it is conjunct the Moon’s (Mean) Node at 1Aq43 in the Natal Figure. Uranus is the planet of shock and surprise. Uranus conjunct the Node has the textbook meaning of “unexpected incidents in family life; unsettling experiences with others; mourning with others”. (Reinhold Ebertin, Transits).
- Select an appropriate Chart covering the date of the event to diagnose what happened. Here is the native’s Harmonic Chart for the event on 27 April 1995:
- Look for the most important feature in the selected Chart. This is typically the conjunction or (Ptolemy) Aspect with the smallest orb. Here we have two factors, both with very small orbs: The Sun, (ruling House 3) opposes the Floating MC (orb 5'), and Saturn (ruling House 8) square Jupiter occupying House 8 (orb 7'). The first factor suggests an accident on the road. The second is a double emphasis on the 8th House and an indication of a death or serious illness.
- Having made the preliminary diagnosis, check whether it conforms to the possibilities of the Natal Chart. The Geniture above has Uranus almost exactly on the 8th Cusp and opposing the Sun, so our preliminary diagnosis is acceptable.
- Look for features in the Harmonic Chart that confirm or support the diagnosis. Angular Neptune trine to Saturn confirms the possibility – sorrow, separation.
What actually happened on 27 April 1995 was that the native, a young man at work, had an accident driving heavy machinery: He ran over and killed a fellow worker.
The Sun ruling the 3rd House (vehicles and transport) is opposed by the Floating MC and squares Uranus, which points to an accident while driving. Saturn is disposited by Mars which rules also the 6th House – the workplace.
How might one know that it was not the native himself who suffered but a colleague? This could be inferred from the Harmonic Chart:
- Significators of the native’s physical body are the Ascendant and the Sun. Neither of these is afflicted by Mars, Uranus or Saturn (8th House Ruler).
- Saturn ruling the 8th House is placed on the Cusp of the 11th – friends and colleagues.
- The Moon in the House of Sorrows conjoins Mars ruling the 11th House (grief and distress).

When this Test was first propounded in a 1995 Issue of Astrologers’ Forum, the Harmonic Chart was not adduced, so all the above detail was not disclosed. This illustration testifies to the relevance and effectiveness of Harmonics in astrological work.
