The Stations of the Planets are often overlooked in predictive work but they are one of the most important and indicative factors. The planets are far more effective when (apparently) Stationary in their orbits than when moving at their normal speed. They are as powerful as Primary Directions. Hence they should always be given priority in Forecasts. Of course, the planets are never really Stationary. They only appear to be so at different times when observed from the Earth.
The Stations of the Planets provide a way to determine the principal happenings of the coming year. Events of importance in a person’s life are invariably highlighted by a strong link between a Station and a Significator in the Natal Chart.
The work of tabulating the Stations is made easy and quick in Solar Fire Deluxe from Esoteric Technologies. This Program will quickly deliver an uncluttered list of the planets’ Stationary positions, turning either Direct or Retrograde, in any stipulated period.
Having drawn up and printed out your List, inspect it for important contacts with Significators in the Natal Chart. The most important are Conjunctions and Oppositions of major planets with the Natal Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Midheaven. Any such connection will signifiy an event of importance in the life of the person concerned.
To discover the nature of the event, ponder on its meaning as it stands—Stationary planet to Natal Significator— and also set up one or more Cyclic Charts (Solar-Month, Lunar-Return or Moon/Sun Phase-Angle) covering the date of the Station involved. These Charts are the best means of determining the precise nature of the event. For Solar-Month and Lunar-Return the precessed version is the best guide. The Cyclic Chart whose commencing date is closest to the date of the Station is usually the most illuminating.
Here is an example of the above process as applied to the Chart of a woman born 14 November 1923:

If you were looking for the principal event/s in her life during her Solar Year, 14 Nov 1996—14 Nov 1997, the first step is to list the Stations, as below.

10 June 1997
Jupiter squares the n.Sun which rules the 7th House (the husband) and the 8th house (death) and Jupiter rules the 12th (sorrows). The Sun is the natural indicator of the husband. The combination fairly obviously means the death of the husband.
The other two most significant contacts support this:
2 August 1997
Saturn rules the 1st House (the native) and the 12th (sorrows), while the
IC, 4th House, = terminations.
14 Oct 1997
Uranus (shock, disruption) conjuncts the Moon on the Ascendant (the native).
In actual fact, the woman’s husband died on 28th July 1997.
Here now is another Chart for you to work on:

Using the above method, find the most important and dramatic event that occurred in this woman’s life in the six months from 7 July 1987. The solution and working is shown below, but to gain maximum benefit from the exercise first do it yourself.
Listed below are the Planets’ Stations for the given period. Those in red are the important ones.

STATIONS (NATAL 2-11) 7 July 1987—7 Dec 1987 | ||

It is plain from the above connections that something very unpleasant has occurred. Pluto conjunct Mars bespeaks violence of some sort. Neptune sextile Mars and square Saturn suggests surgery in hospital— Saturn rules the Natal 12th House, and the Moon on its Cusp rules the House of Ill Health.
The more important of the above contacts is the one on 17 Sep 1987 involving three malefic planets.
For further information, look to the Lunar Phase Return Chart (“Moon/Sun Phase Return” in Solar Fire), whose date is 8 Sep 1987, covering the date 17 Sep 1987. The Chart is below.

What actually happened to the woman is that she had to undergo an emergency hysterectomy to save her life (exactly on 17 Sep 1987) following a failed attempt to induce labour for an anecephalic baby.
The story is told by the Lunar Phase Chart. The dominating feature is the Moon square the Vertex and Uranus in the House of Birth. The Moon square the Vertex has life-changing implications.
Saturn in the 5th House is square the Sun, Ruler of the Ascendant. The surgery and its emergency nature is shown by Uranus semisquare Pluto on the 4th Cusp. Pluto is associated with removal of body parts.
