Q1- Do you have to play 2 words every turn?
A1- No, however it
is very unusual for players not to play 2 words unless it is at the end of
the game and very few letters are left or a long word is played that
leaves the remaining letters unplayable.
Q2-Can players refer to a dictionary?
A2- Players can
request another player to check the spelling and/ or existence of a word,
abbreviation, chemical symbol etc., prior to playing the word. When
playing solo it is permitted to check word correctness and to discover other
words, thereby increasing word and term knowledge.
Q3- Do players have to join their second word to their first word
played in each turn?
A3- No.
Players can join onto any other words already on the board and do not have to
join their own words together. It is necessary to assess the options
and play the words in the positions that yield the best score. All
words played must connect with other words on the board.
Q4- Is it best to go for Extra Word on your first or second word
played in a turn?
A4 - Often it is a
better strategy to create an opening with the first word played and score Extra
Word Bonus with the second word played resulting in the collection of more
new letters. However, if the letter selection is poor it might be
advisable to score the Extra Word Bonus with the first word played to
possibly improve the letter selection and word potential.
Q5- Can players use the Letter Exchange Option after they've
covered an Extra Word Bonus?
A5- No. The Letter
Exchange Option must be used prior to commencing a turn and can be only used
once during a turn.
Q6- Do bonuses and penalties still apply after they've been
scored?
A6- No. Bonuses and
penalties apply once only to the word that initially covers them.
Q7- Can you throw all your letters in to the supply and replace
them instead of playing a turn?
A7- No.
Players can not forfeit their turn or change their letters for new ones.
Q8- Can you use abbreviations, chemical symbols slang, names of
countries etc?
A8- Yes.
Eg.Au is the symbol for gold, Zn is the symbol for zinc, IRA,FBI,QC,IQ are
all acceptable and there are many more. Names of people are not
permitted.
Q9- Can you join onto both ends of a word?
A9- Yes. It
is allowable to join onto both ends of a word and only count the turn as one
word being played. Eg ORGANISE could be extended to become DISORGANISED
and count as only one word being played.
Q10- How do you play solo?
A10- Use one dual
letter rack only and score each turn as you play. The aim is to try and
score 575+ points to be a DUOSPECIALIST. It is possible to cover every bonus
and not score 575, however it is also possible to score 800+. Set
your own highest score.
Q11- Do all players have equal turns?
A11- Yes, every
player has the same amount of turns in a game.
Q12- How do you finish the game?
A12- The game
is finished when a player has no letters left. The players who
follow that player in the round can play another turn so that they've all had
equal turns for the game. Eg If player 2 is first out then player 3 and 4
have another turn but player 1 does not. If no player can use all of
their remaining letters then play is over when no more letters can be
played. Players deduct the remaining letters from their score.
TIPS - Group letters like
"ing" and "ion" together. This helps when building
long words. Use letters like "S" and "D" to add on
to existing words. Move your letters around on the Dual Letter rack to
discover your word potential. Assess the board options for the best
strategy. Use the Letter Exchange Option before starting your turn.
