VSCC ALPINE TRIAL APRIL 7-14 2000
In April 2000 the VSCC held its bi-annual Alpine Trial. For something different it was held in Tasmania. Approximately 1000 miles were covered by the pre war entarnts over 6 days (including a lay day when most people went on a cruise up the picturesque Gordon River. 68 cars made the start of the rally with 66 finishing under their own steam. The oldest car was a 1913 D Type Vauxhall and the youngest (of the eligible cars) a 1938 Alfa Romeo.
Two cars broke rear axle half shafts during the event and another car broke one on the way back to the ferry. Aproximately 140 people had an excellent time in Tasmanai a large proprtion of which can be attributed to the organisers who did a magnificent job in putting this event togethor.
Tasmania is an excellent destination for cars of any description but especially for Vintage and PVT cars. The roads are all in good condition (if a little bumpy at times) and in most area's very little traffic is encountered.
Tasmania is usually green and lush (Much like the English countryside I am told), however they are entering their third year of drought and although many of the rivers still have plenty of water, the countryside was more akin to the more Northern Australian states during the trial.
