RESPECTED Suburban rugby mentor Michael Mills has been appointed head coach of Hunters Hill Rugby Club for 2003.
Mills, who played over 100 games with Eastwood before guiding Epping to a first grade premiership, is a valuable acquisition for the Hillies - attracting a number of quality players.
A new coach plus a new recruiting strategy aimed at younger players will push Hunters Hill into First Division within two years, according to the revamped player-dominated executive.
"We're injecting new vision, structure, style, depth and sustainability as we start our fight for this year's premiership," said Mills.
"The hallmark of our playing style is based on discipline and composure to ensure teams turn defence into attack, retain possession for longer periods and make more effective use of the ball," he said.
"There's never been a better opportunity for younger players just out of school to get a run on the paddock with local stand-outs like winger David Templeman and prop Andy Johnson..
Gains include talented Epping five eighth Andrew Bevan and hooker Dave Ninnes - both ex- Eastwood Colts - and exciting second rower Iona Iona from Canterbury Crusaders.
Club will field four grade teams and a Colts side this season and train at Boronia Park Oval each Thursday from 7pm. Club fixtures, social functions and general information are on the website.
